Excerpt: With Bentley unveiling their second-generation Continental GT and Rolls-Royce sales through the roof after launch of the Ghost, we wanted to take a look back at when these companies were one and the drama behind their sale to the Volkswagen and BMW, respectively, and what got them where they are today. The drama actually started back in 1931 when Bentley’s sales were crippled by the Great Depression. That year, Bentley was sold to the British Central Equitable Trust, a company set up secretly by Rolls-Royce with W.O. Bentley himself not even knowing he was selling the company to his competition….
