Excerpt: Mercedes-Benz is touting the stateside arrival of their new V8 engines. The new 4.6 liter engine is 20% smaller than the outgoing version, but puts out 12% more horsepower and 32% more torque. This puts the final figures at 429 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque while also achieving a 10% gain in fuel economy. The new 5.5 liter AMG V8 gets stop/start, direct injection and two turbochargers to peg the new hand-built powerplant at 536 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque; All the while gaining an estimated 20% increase in fuel economy.
